Boka Kotorska

Boka

Teško je riječima opisati ljepotu Bokokotorskog zaliva. Milioni riječi su napisani o Boki. Nedovoljno.

Istorija

Gradovi

Srednjovjekovni gradovi Kotor, Risan, Tivat, Perast, Prčanj i Herceg Novi, zajedno sa svojim prirodnim okruženjem, predstavljaju glavne turističke atrakcije u Boki Kotorskoj i ovom dijelu Crne Gore.

Perast

Herceg Novi

Herceg Novi je grad sa bezbroj stepenica. Nalazi se na ulazu u Bokokotorski zaliv. Istorija Herceg Novog građena je pod venecijanskim, španskim, turskim i austrijskim uticajem. Sam grad ima niz utvrđenja: Forte Mare, Citadela, Kanli Kula, Sat Kula, Španjola i još mnogo drugih interesantnih mjesta.
To je moj omiljeni grad sa svojom rivijerom, malim lijepim selima uz more: Meljine, Kumbor, Đenovići, Bijela itd.

Toliko u ovom tekstu. Ostalo ćemo dalje otkrivati po redu.

Boka Bay

It is hard to describe the beauty of Boka Bay in words. Millions of words were written about it. Not enough. Even photos and paintings can’t show you its soul and gorgeousness. So, it is important to visit it. Meanwhile, we will try just to mention some of its jewels here.

Kotor

Geography

Boka is a bay of the Adriatic Sea, in southwestern Montenegro as the southernmost fjord in Europe.  It is divided into four smaller parts – Herceg Novi bay, Risan bay, Tivat bay and Kotor bay.
Whether you come by boat from Adriatic sea or by car from Dubrovnik, Nikšić, Trebinje, Budva or Lovćen you will see stunning nature. It looks like the mountains have fallen into sea and allow the sea only thin coastline.
The Boka bay is about 28 km long with a shoreline extending 106 km. It is surrounded by two massifs of the Dinaric Alps: Orjen Mountain and Lovćen Mountain.

History

In short, Boka had a turbulent history from its ancient times. It is witness of the Greek colonies, Illyrian kings, Serbian tribes, rule of the Venetian Republic, The Ottoman Empire and Austro Hungarian Empire. All of them left numerous traces and buildings as well.

Famous people, especially overseas sailors and ship captains are born in Boka during its long history.
For example, one of them is Ivo Visin from Prčanj, near Kotor. He is the sixth professional sailor behind Magellan which sailed the world on his 30 meters long vessel “Splendido”.

Islands

Some of islands of Boka Bay are: Firstly, Lastavica (Mamula) at the very entrance to Boka Bay; than Mali Žanjic close to a popular Žanjice beach; The Island of Flowers a small island in Tivat bay. Also: St. George’s Island; The Our Lady of Mercy and the most famous island in Boka, Our Lady of the Rocks.

Perast

Whole town is intertwined with streets, small squares and interesting buildings such as Saint Tryphon’s Cathedral, the Clock Tower, the Pillar of Shame – the symbols of the city of Kotor. Also, as San Giovanni Fortress which is located above the old city.

Risan

Risan is the oldest settlement in the Boka. It is founded in the 3th century BC. It was once the capital of the Illyrian queen Teuta after which it was named. You can still find Roman mosaics there.
Similarly, few kilometers from Risan are Lipci, place where you can see an archeological treasure – Lipci cliff. It is place with drawings which are created in the 8th century BC.

Herceg Novi

Herceg Novi is a city with countless stair treads. It is located at the entrance of the Boka Bay. Herceg Novi’s history was built under Venetian, Spanish, Turkish and Austrian influence. The city itself has number of fortifications: Forte Mare, Citadela, Kanli Kula, Sat Kula, Španjola and many more issues to show.
In conclusion, it is my favorite town with its Riviera, small beautiful villages by the sea: Meljine, Kumbor, Đenovići, Bijela etc.

So much in this text. In addition, we will continue to discover the rest in order.
